Description

Perennial Herbs; Short rhizomes are whip shaped,with 2 or more fleshy roots; Succulent roots are cylindrical,2 -- 4cm long,1cm in diameter,longitudinally wrinkled when dry.Solitary Stems are about 40cm tall,longitudinal,glabrous,with persistent scales at base.The leaves are palmately compound,4 of which are rotated at the apex of the stem.Petioles are 4 -- 5cm long,longitudinally striated,glabrous; Stipules are small,lanceolate,5-6mm long; 3-4 small leaf blade are transparent,elliptic,oval or oblong,the oval in the center of 9-10 cm long,3.5-4 cm are lateral small,the apex is long acuminate,the base is gradually narrow,decurrent,margin with heavy serrate with thorns,densely thorns above the pulse of leaf blade,thorns are 1.5-2 mm long,glabrous below,8-10 couple lateral veins clearly and net veins obviously; Petioles are 2-10mm long,tuft thorns at junction with tip of petiole.single umbels at Stem top,3.5cm in diameter,with 20-50 flowers; Pedicels are 12cm long,longitudinally striated,glabrous; Slenderb pedicels are glabrous,1cm long; Bracts are inconspicuous; Flowers are Yellow-green;Cup-shaped Calyx (calyx of male flower is gyroscopic),margin with 5 triangular teeth; Petals 5,Stamens 5; 2-loculed ovary; Style 2 or 1.
